Before preparing the itinerary to discover the Amalfi Coast, there’s a problem to face.
How to travel the 55 km of the main road 163 along which this magical land winds?
There are 4 different and possible solutions
1. The public transport
The cities along the Amalfi Coast are connected by the Sita bus line, which runs along the main road 163 and also in the inland areas with fairly frequent routes (for more informations on the timetables see the official website https : //www.sitasudtrasporti.it/orari).
PRO – This travel solution is the most economical: the bus ticket is cheap and you don’t have to face the cost of renting a car or a scooter; without considering that you avoid having to pay the parking prices (really high)!
CONTRO – Making use of public transport means inevitably being bound to racing times, a problem for those with limited time. Among other things, at peak times (from noon onwards) there is the risk of being trapped in traffic for hours and hours.
2. Rent a car
Another possible solution to explore the Amalfi Coast is rent a car in Naples (at the airport or near the central station) and continue towards Salerno: in an hour you reach Vietri sul Mare, the gateway to the 55 km of the Amalfi Coast .
PRO – The car allows you to optimize the time available, especially when it is short, and to organize the travel itinerary along the Amalfi Coast in complete autonomy.
CONTRO – If you choose this travel solution, you need to know the two main risks
– The parking ticket in the Amalfi Coast cities is really high: you’ll spend € 5-8 per hour and at the end of the day you could have spent from € 30 up only for parking the car
– At peak times and high season, it’s impossible not to get stuck in traffic.
3. The ferry boat
The villages overlooking the Amalfi Coast are connected by frequent ferry courses.
PRO – The ticket price is cheap compared to what you would pay to park the car in the different Amalfi Coast villages.
CONRO – Also in this case, as for the public transport with the Sita bus, we remain bound to the schedules of the races.
4. Rent a scooter 
Among all the possible travel solutions to discover the Amalfi Coast, we recommend renting a scooter.
The use of the scooter allows you to travel in complete autonomy, to optimize times; however, there is no risk of being trapped in traffic and of having to face the anxiety of finding a free parking space.
