Traveling independently to Egypt … is it possible? Of course yes! With a minimum of organization it’s possible organiza a perefect travel itinerary.
We have developed a 7-day travel itinerary which we share here and which can be taken as a point of inspiration.
We recommend organizing all the excursions on site and this for two main reasons:
1. You save a lot in different travel companies
2. It is possible to realize the excursion, without relying blindly and without running the risk of ruining the experience.
This is the itinerary we have designed and followed. The pace was pretty fast but we would go back and do the same unforgettable experiences again!

Here are the 3 main microstops of our journey in the land of the Pharaohs
• 1° stop: discovering Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza and the White Desert – 4 days
– Day 1: visit of the capital
We arrived in Cairo airport late in the evening and, before starting the exhausting bargaining for the taxi ride, we bought the internet sim card in the Vodafone stand located in the arrivals hall.
We woke up the next day to start visiting the capital early in the morning ⇒ a perfect day in Cairo
In the evening we went to a small hotel in Giza so that we can start visiting the pyramids in the morning
– Day 2: visit of the Pyramids of Giza and Saqqarah
To avoid the crowd we arrived at the entrance of the pyramids just before the site opens ⇒ how to visit the Giza Pyramids?
– Days 3 and 4: excursion in the White Desert
We spendend a night under the starry sky of the White Desert ⇒ travel tips for the White Desert tour
The next day we returned to Cairo in the afternoon and we went to Luxor. Arrived in the evening we asked some informations at the tourist point of the city (it ‘s located in the station, just entered on the right) and we booked the train to Aswan for the next day.
• 2° stop: discovering the South of Egypt – 2 days
– Day 5: discovering Luxor
We woke up very early to start visiting the Kings Valley and the East Bank of Luxor. In the evening, we arrived in Aswan and book a bus to Abu Simbel with the help of the hotel owner.

– Day 6: Aswan and Abu Simbel
At 3 am we took the bus to fo to Abu Simbel and in four hours we arrived at the destination. We returned to the city for lunch and we went by boat to the Wonderful Philae Temple of Philae.
• 3° stage: snorkelling in the Red Sea and return to Cairo – 2 days
– Day 7: snorkelling in the Red Sea
In the morning we took a local bus and towards lunch we arrived in Marsa Alam. Arrived in the city … panic! The complete desert: hotels under construction, no one on the street able to give us information. Fortunately, our savior appears from a diving excursion shop: Hany (for contacts: https://www.facebook.com/hany.r.atta). He advises us to go to nearby Puert Ghalib, where it is possible to organize day snorkelling trips at a good price. We trust our instincts and follow him: he even manages to find us a comfortable accommodation in the suburbs of the residential center and organizes for us the excusion for the following day.
We will never cease to thank him for his kindness and availability!
In the evening we took the bus to Hurghada and from there another night bus that will take us to Cairo.
– Day 8: departure from Cairo
We arrived at dawn in the Egyptian capital and took advantage of the hours available to visit Coptic Cairo and the historical part of the city before going to the airport.
