A travel idea that had flashed for a long time and to which we said “yes” between a sleepless night and another.
A small van hired less than a week in advance. A suitcases made in bulk (yes, when we travel on the road we leave the backpack and go back to the trolleys that make us comfortable drawers … check our Australia on the road!).
A new little travel buddy, oblivious to our rhythms, our alarm clocks at dawn and nonstop walks.
Anxiously waiting to leave again, but also a not inconsiderable agitation in having to face everything with a little more component in our team.
What if we weren’t the team before? These are the ingredients of our first trip in 3.
We have returned to the origins: a pure journey on the road, without any reservation and fixed destination, with an uncertain itinerary to think about step by step, but perfect for our first time in three.
With our small van we touched the pearls of the basque country, San Sebastian and Bilbao, to push us towards the wildest and harshest Galicia.
Then, going south, we left Northern Spain behind to head towards Portugal: we let ourselves be overwhelmed by the warm local atmosphere, by the sumptuous manueline-style convents, by cosmopolitan Lisbon, arriving in the extreme south of the Algarve, fascinating with its jagged coasts.
About 4800 km ground in 15 days.
Not bad as the first on the road in 3!
