Matteo and I have taken as a “healthy” habit to disconnect from work in early February, organizing a trip of just over a week in a nearby destination. The period is ideal for several reasons: in many destinations it’s low season and the prices of the trip are not hight; without considering that the crowd of tourists is avoided and you can admire in complete peace places that are otherwise crowded.
After the incredible journey to Israel and Petra, this time the choice fell on Egypt, a land that had long fascinated us.
It was love at first sight.
Egypt is an open-air museum: every corner offers a piece of history and one feels privileged to have the opportunity to admire, after so many centuries, millenary works.
Egypt is alive: it is difficult not to be fascinated and overwhelmed by the colors and smells of the markets teeming with people.
Egypt is mysterious: moving away from the capital you enter a magical and mysterious land with unique and breathtaking views.
We liked
• The Egyptian people are incredibly hospitable
During our journey we were lucky to meet helpful and kind people who, without ulterior motives, helped us in difficult times and helped us. Yes, it’s true, there are many patrons who try to take advantage of the “ingenuity” of the tourist, but beyond this hides a hospitable people with a large smile.
We didn’t like
• The neglect of the sites of interest
It is really a pity that the sites of greatest interest are left to their fate and are not properly maintained. We happened to admire the pyramids of Giza walking through the garbage with ruined buildings next to it.
• The difficulty of traveling independently
Visiting Egypt independently is not a simple undertaking: everything seems, in fact, to be built at a table to prevent the traveler from organizing visits and exploring the sites of interest independently. The absence of indications and signs, the constant presence of insistent improvised “guides” make the organization of a do-it-yourself Egypt more complicated. Nothing is impossible anyway! A minimum of organization and patience is enough
