Buenos Aires is a fascinating, lively and noisy metropolis that can be easily visited in one to two days, since the main sites of interest are located at close range.
• Discovering Buenos Aires
Depart from the Plaza de Mayo, the main square of the capital overlooked by the Casa Rosada, the seat of government: from the balcony of this building Madonna interpreted Evita, wife of the then Argentine president Peròn.
Head to the San Telmo district, the historical part of the city, rich in colonial buildings and small antique shops that follow each other in cobbled alleys: try to visit it on Sunday to visit the famous market and enjoy the tango shows that follow each other. along the streets; meanwhile, try the empanadas, savory dumplings stuffed with meat or vegetables baked or fried.
At this point, continue with a bus ride to the picturesque La Boca neighborhood, famous for its bad reputation. Limit yourself to the main street (“El Caminito“) which winds its way along the riverside and arrives at the famous Buenos Aires stadium, La Bombonera: the route is marked by police officers who patrol the area and is teeming with tourists.
Spend the afternoon in the modern and luxurious district of Puerto Madero between the beautiful brick buildings and the green of the many gardens. Enjoy dinner in one of the many parrillas, which offer every cut of meat, the strong dish of Argentina. Order the bife de chorizo, a tender beef tenderloin: the knife blade will sink very easily, as it was butter!
Finally, end the day by attending a tango show: the shows are dedicated to tourists but they deserve. We attended the dances at the Cafè Tortoni, near the Plaza de Mayo.
• A day trip to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay
Get away from Buenos Aires and drive to nearby Uruguay, disembarking in Colonia del Sacramento, just 1 hour away by ferry from the Argentine capital. Colonia is a pretty, quiet colonial era town that overlooks the sea and winds its way through narrow, cobbled streets.
Here, enjoy at one of the small kiosks the chivito, a sandwich stuffed with steak, bacon, ham, fried egg, vegetables and mayonnaise: you will be satisfied until the next day!
